Land Acknowledgement

We humbly acknowledge that our temple exists on the traditional and ancestral lands of the Kusso and Sewee peoples, who have been the original and enduring stewards of these ecosystems since time immemorial. We acknowledge them as the original and enduring caretakers of the ground beneath us, the rivers that flow near us, and the coastal beauty that defines this region.

Our commitment is to listen to this land, to be mindful and respectful occupants, to always remember that our spiritual community is built upon a foundation laid long before us, and to encourage our community to learn about and honor the deep, ongoing history of the Indigenous peoples of this area.

We offer our gratitude to the Kusso and Sewee nations, past and present, for their enduring care of this beautiful and life-giving territory.

We wish to pay our respects to the elders of the Kussoe People, both past and present, including Leon Creel (1961-2025) - community elder, and the current chief of the Edisto Natchez-Kusso Tribe of South Carolina, Glen Creel.

Our work here is done with respect for the past and a commitment to a thoughtful present.
