The King’s Moon

Poitropios Full Moon

The King's Moon is a celebration of strength and loyalty. In Poitropios we find ourselves approaching the start of Cheimónas, a time of harsher weather and colder days. It is a time when perseverance is most important, as we begin the long journey back to summer. With modern technology and housing, winter is no longer as hard as it once was; but during The King's Moon, we can still honor how loyalty and standing by those who support you is of paramount importance.

Extravagant dinners and fine wines are auspicious, as are large gathering with family and friends.

history vs modern day

While full moons may have been celebrated in ancient times, there is little to no record of a specific festival or observance for these lunar events (unlike Noumenia, etc.)

The traditions, alignments, and recommendations for our Full Moon Festivals come from a variety of places - not all of which are Hellenic in nature. Our Full Moon Festivals are also inspired by the local flora and fauna of South Carolina (where our Temple is located) as well as from other pagan and neo-pagan Full Moon traditions.

The King's Moon is named in honor of Lord Zeus, King of the Gods and the God of the sky, the weather, fate, and kings. The King's Moon is a time to show honor, respect, and eusebeia (piety) towards Lord Zeus, and a time to better understand who he is and what he represents. Lord Zeus is often demonized due to his myths and mythic literature, but it is very important to mark and understand the difference between Zeus of Myth and Zeus of Cult.

The King's Moon affords us the opportunity to look within ourselves and examine the masculine aspects within us all. It also serves as a time to reflect on your ancestry, where you came from, and where you are now. For many, biological family is not an easy or even joyful subject - but it is important to not ignore the past, but to instead learn and grow from it.
