The Moss Moon
Daidophorios Full Moon
The Moss Moon also known as The Spanish Moss Moon, is a celebration of the mysteries, the occult, and witchcraft. The Spanish Moss Moon occurs during the month of Daidophorios - when the barriers between what can and cannot be seen are said to be thin and permeable. The Moss Moon is a time to examine occult and cult mysteries, and a time to continue (or start) your magical practice.
Spellwork and magical rituals are auspicious, as is research surrounding magical practices (both ancient and modern).

While full moons may have been celebrated in ancient times, there is little to no record of a specific festival or observance for these lunar events (unlike Noumenia, etc.)
The traditions, alignments, and recommendations for our Full Moon Festivals come from a variety of places - not all of which are Hellenic in nature. Our Full Moon Festivals are also inspired by the local flora and fauna of South Carolina (where our Temple is located) as well as from other pagan and neo-pagan Full Moon traditions.
The Moss Moon is named in reference to Spanish moss (tillandsia usneoides), a flowering plant that grows in tropical and subtropical climates; and is also, technically, not a moss at all. It is common to see Spanish Moss throughout the southern United States, from the deep south of Virginia to Florida and even out to Texas - it plays a key part in southern gothic imagery and southern culture. Spanish moss is common in South Carolina, and can primarily be found on Oak and Cypress trees. While Spanish moss is not inherently harmful to trees, overgrown Spanish moss can impede a tree's ability to obtain sunlight and photosynthesize (source: Wikipedia).
Daidophorios is the month in which we honor Lady Hekatê; Goddess of the Crossroads, Witchcraft, and the Night. In this, The Moss Moon is a time to honor Lady Hekatê and her domains. This can be done through magical workings and practice, but can also be done by honoring the dead and celebrating the beauty of the night.
