Persephone’s Descent

katabasis, a Greek word that describes a ‘journey to the underworld’, is a festival that both mourns Kore’s departure from the overworld, and celebrates Queen Persephone’s return to Hades and her reuniting with King Pluton.

This festival occurs annually on the evening before, and leading into Midnight on, Fthinóporo.
